![]() I must first say that this is a beautiful fish. I saw one at the lfs and thought it would be so nice to have one, but my tank is only a 46G bow front (36inches across)! I have had a slight GHA problem. Basically just on the live rock. I went today to the lfs store and once again I saw that beautiful Yellow Eye Tang. I was talking to a clerk (who has several reef and FOWLR tanks) and asking questions about clean-up crews that would work good on my GHA problem. He reassured me that it was probably a normal occurrence because my tank is relatively new (3~3.5 months new). I already knew that, but he was very helpful none the less. He pointed me to some peppermint shrimp and some snails. I already had some in my tank, figured they could help. It isn't like they will starve in this tank. He then brought me over to the tank that had the Yellow Eye Tang. I then told him that my tank was only a 46G bow front and that I read that most people claim nothing less than a 75 Gallon and at the very least a 55 gallon. He assured me it would be ok for this fish and as a bonus this fish loves algae! I have been burned so many times already by people that give incorrect advice. I currently have about 45lbs of LR and one base rock of about 3lbs. Would it be possible to keep it if I removed some LR? The only fish I have is a clown and I would love to have this Tang. I plan on upgrading before the end of this year, but do not want to get something and make it miserable. If I could get away with keeping it I would refrain from buying any more fish. He told me again and again it would be ok, but I just have never heard anyone else say it would be all right. On another note maybe someone could help me. My water is as follows...0 Ammonia 0 Nitrites PH 8.3 5 Nitrate 0 Phosphates Alkalinity was tested about a week ago and claimed to have been good (LFS), but I do not have that test kit yet 450 Calcium and currently a S.Gravity of 1.024! Today tests were taken before water change and after. The only thing that changed was the Gravity. It was 1.025 and now it is a bit lower. I realized that the water I was adding was a bit lower, but this was by design. I wanted to hit the target of 1.024. I guess for no reason other than I read that this is an ideal number. My water was mixed about 5 days ago, but today before I added it I tested it and the gravity was too low! My tank was splashing around because the old water had already been removed and the pumps were spraying and splattering. I had to add more water, but I didn't want to lower the Gravity more than ..001! I added less than a half a cup of salt to each 5 gallon jug and this corrected the problem. I was nervous because I read that you should let it sit for days before adding it. I of course thought like a newbie and figured that since it had sat for that long and only need a bit more salt to bring it to par I would hopefully be ok. Well my clown now after doing well for about 1.5 weeks is sitting on the bottom (after about 2 hours). I'm so disappointed. Do you think he will pull through? Was this a problem caused by the quick fix of the gravity? Ok.. Let me have it!~ ...Dee |
