Default MH light supplement from side of acrylic tank?

I have a 150 gallon 30" deep symmetric hexagonal reef tank. I have a
single 250 watt MH HQI pendant and about 530 watts of VHO lighting.
There is no more room for any more lighting in the small hood. I would
like to supplement my lighting to help color up some of my more
light-requiring SPS, and crocea clam which sits on the bottom of my
tank. A thought crossed my mind about the possibility of placing a
pendant in the ceiling surrounding the tank and have it pointed at one
of the sides of the tank hitting the side at about a 45 degree angle.
I imagine that there would be some significant loss of intensity due to
reflection, but is there any other reason why this might not be a good
idea.

Perhaps more algae growth on the side?
