Default Gulf Toadfish

Does anyone have any/much experience with the gulf toadfish (Opsanus Beta)
While picking up some aquacultured live rock in tampa 2 years ago, the
place gave me the toadfish that was caught in a net.
I have had this guy in a 38gal alone for the last year or so, and it just
doesnt seem to be the best home for him.
I am pretty sure I cannot put him in my reef tank, or can I? nothing I
found indicates his died included corals, mainly smaller fish and
shrimp/crabs.

I could put him in my 240gal FOLR tank, but I fear it would hid under in
the rock and sand and not get enough food. Any idea on the best home for
it?

I have no experience with toad fish in tanks but know a little about
them as I'm a marine biologist and I've done work on the Texas coast
where these are common. They like to hide in crevises and holes.
While working in the field, about 25% of the time when you find an old
can or bottle that's been in the water for some time, you'll find a
toad fish in it thats too big to get out. As you've likely seen, they
have a huge mouth and I wouldn't put them in a tank with fish that you
didn't mind losing or wasn't larger than it. They're a wait and hide
predator, that likely won't make a good aquarium fish. Good luck with
your decision.
