Default MH for 4 to 6 hours only?

Hi all,

Just finished reading Marine Reef Aquarium Handbook by Dr. Robert J.
Goldstein, in which he mentioned on the lighting section that MH are
only good for the first 4 to 6 hours, and that after that, they generate
heat and that VHO is the way to go.

My tank is about 1 1/2 years old, with a 175 W MH pendant, and I've had
no problems with heat or any other matter, except when I allowed the
first bulb to get old--this caused my bubble coral to shrivel up, and
today continues that way, and a hawaiian feather duster that I lost also.

Can anyone offer their opinion on the matter.

TIA,

Richard

So just ask yourself -- Which should you be listening to? Dr Goldstein who
knows nothing about your tank, or your corals?

Hi Jimmy and thanks.

I guess you are right. But I'm worried of the long term effects ( than
2 or 3 years.) Plus, could it me that I have not yet introduced a coral
that may be harmed by this type of Lux?

Regards

Richard
