I used to keep a battery powered airpump around in case of power failures. That's pretty much all most freshwater setups need. -- Elaine T __ http://eethomp.com/fish.html '__ rec.aquaria.* FAQ http://faq.thekrib.com |

I once had an Uninterupted Power Supply (UPS) that is most commonly used for
computers during power outages. I never got around to using it, but figured I could have a good 2-3 hours of main pump and heater use. Might be a good idea for those short power outages. Justin I have gone through outages of several hours with no problems. As to the UPS, it might run an air pump for awhile, but not a heater if the heater is actually on. I have 3 UPS for my computers. The continuous power prevents the computer shuting down for minutes, not hours. Enough time to save data files, shut down programs and shut down the computer in an orderly fashion. REally useful in thunderstorms, high winds and short interruptsion. I am using larger models of UPS than most, but the tested time varies by computer from 10 to 20 minutes.(My USP come with a program which determines maximum time with actual load). dick "Robert M." wrote in message . .. does anyone have a backup power source for their aquarium?
