I'm the one with a fish who is a bully -- forces all the other fish
in the tank into a corner like a sheep dog. The "sheep" fish can hardly move without being chased. I went to my LFS and asked the guy if he'd be willing to take my bully. He said he would, so I may do that. But I'm wondering if some other fish will become the new bully. Any ideas? Would it be a good solution to give the bully to the fish store? Tbanks! coolchinchilla |

Bringing an unsociable fish to the LFS is a great option. You'll be less stressed, and your fish as well. I have exersised this option a couple times, when I was entering the marine tank world, as I didn't understand how much more territorial marine critters can be than most freshwater species. I even got store credit. billy |

Would it be a good solution to give the bully to the fish store? I have a fish that is bully, a type of Chinese algae eater, that I was really tempted to give back to the LFS. But instead I set up a tank for him with very peaceful fish and he has become very passive. I worried how the next owner of the fish would treat him. Would a newbie buy him and dump him in a goldfish bowl to rot? Would they find him too aggressive and flush him down the bathroom toilet? What I've heard about how people deal with aggressive fish like CAE, I decided it was in his best interest if I kept him. Sure, I have found on occasion that there is a hierarchy of aggression that is not apparent until the top aggressor is removed. I remove the aggressive CAE who beats up everyone, then I find that the redtailed shark is beating up the two ruby sharks. I remove the redtailed shark and find that the two ruby sharks are squabbling between themselves and inflicting terrible wounds. If you have no spare tanks, then return it to the LFS. Or depending on the type of fish it is, you could set up more hiding places or separate out areas with plants to make other fish less visible and to give it less territory to visibly guard. Nikki |

I'd hate to see my bully go to someone who would be unkind or even effectively poison him. :-( He doesn't mean to be a bully. He is just being who he is as a fish. Something to mull over. coolchinchilla |
