Default any advice for a newbie planning to build a pond?

My wife and I bought a new house with a modest sized lot this past
May. From the start I have wanted to put in a medium-sized fish pond
in the back with a small stream/falls feeding it.
Does anyone have any advice on how to start, and especially how to
build the falls? We have an embankment in the back of the yard that is
very well suited for a cascading waterfalls.
I don't know when I will get around to starting the project. Hopefully
it will cool down a little in August and I can start then. (I am in
the Kansas City area.)

Hi Randy,

Use something like rope or a garden hose to lay out your design and
start diggin
Here is a few sites I like for info
http://www.azponds.com
http://www.mikebentley.com/ponds
http://www.homestead.com/backyardpond/links.html
http://www.pondrushes.net/links.htm
http://www.wauu.de/Home/Gardens/Desi...onds/more4.htm

Some good info out there on pond design, building your own filtration,
etc.
Im originally from St. Joseph so I know that humidity is beast right
now. I live in Phoenix AZ now and it was 117 here to day and its been
like that for a month and will continue till Sept.

Good Luck,
Chris

Thanks for the links. I just got home from Las Vegas on Saturday night, and
it was about the same there. 115F during the day, and it barely went below
100 around midnight (87 low around sunrise.) I won't be going there again in
the summer if I can help it, but unfortunately that's when the conferences
are.
