Ugh, I'm gonna need to sterilize my keyboard. I never thought I'd ask for anything from those fake blood throwing loonies, but I received a response from PETA recommending the following link for reporting the portrayal of any animal abuse on the web: http://www.animalactivist.com/onlinecruelty.asp - Logic316 "...trusting the government with your privacy is like having a Peeping Tom install your window blinds." -- John Perry Barlow |

It is beyond disturbing. If you look closely when they're taking the
last bit of Mt. Dew out, it appears darker than I would expect it to be. I wonder if it was the fish's gills hemorrhaging. If it wasn't cruel enough to that point, then they stick in a 9V battery to zap the poor thing? Their main office is in NYC. Maybe a call to "The Animal Cops" aka the ASPCA is in order? I know I'm sending the info along to them. I sent those spawns of Satan an email condemming that movie. |

In my opinion, true artists know that offending people is not the same thing as making them think. In any case, if they don't take it down soon, I'll have a word with their Internet company to see if they'll do anything. - Logic316 "Those who beat their swords into plowshares will plow for those who don't." |

You don't even seem to have noticed the fact that it's not possible to bring a goldfish back to life by zapping it with a 9-volt battery. The question to ask is not "why did they do that?" but "how did they do that?" You see people being murdered in the movies everyday and it never occurs to you that the actors were really murdered. Why does it not occur to you that the fish was not really killed? It's a movie. |

In my opinion, true artists know that offending people is not the same thing as making them think. Obviously. Quite. Yes indeed. Indubitably. You don't even seem to have noticed the fact that it's not possible to bring a goldfish back to life by zapping it with a 9-volt battery. Not literally of course, but precisely how much do YOU know about fish, Mr. Temp? In my experience (keeping fish, treating them for disease, as well as catching fish), it's easily possible for a fish to be extremely ill and floating apparently motionless on it's side, but still be able to instantly dart away and thrash around like lightning when you poke at it, and then right itself again temporarily. The goldfish perhaps wasn't quite dead when it got zapped, merely close to death, and if the video had continued further on, it probably would have shown the goldfish settling down after a few seconds and then floating back to the top on it's side again. It then may have slowly recovered from it's Mountain Dew "treatment" afterwards. The question to ask is not "why did they do that?" but "how did they do that?" You see people being murdered in the movies everyday and it never occurs to you that the actors were really murdered. Why does it not occur to you that the fish was not really killed? That is an interesting question which we haven't thought of. It is hard to always be sure what's real and what isn't in a movie. However, when you see people being killed in a movie, everybody knows it isn't real because it would be totally illegal. If you see animals being hurt in a movie, you can't be sure whether or not it's fake unless it's an officially released movie carrying a legal disclaimer in the credits (no actual animals were injured in the making of this film, etc.) because animals have relatively few legal protections, and it costs more and it's much harder to make a fake scene look realistic than to simply make a real scene. And the fact is, animals HAVE been hurt and killed in the past simply for the sake of producing movies and cutting costs in the process, but no real human "snuff" film has ever been commercially produced. The logical thing is to assume a video like this might be real unless proven otherwise. It's a movie. And a sick one at that. I have no problem with people exercising their First Amendment right to tweak the noses of arrogant and out-of-touch animal rights wackos (PETAphiles) and other left-wing radical types. Hell, I thought the Bonsai Kitten site at http://www.bonsaikitten.com was hilarious, because it's clearly so unrealistic only a fanatic would take it seriously. But this is just plain offensive to anybody who merely happens to like animals. - Logic316 "Taxpayer: that's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination." -- Ronald Reagan |

I wholeheartedly agree with Logic316. It is very possible that fish was
still alive when it got the 9V goose. Whether or not it was alive at that point isn't really the issue. Up to that point the goldfish was clearly under stress and it was torture. If it wasn't dead by that point, well I'm sure it was after. That said, after some reflection on it I realized that what also upsets is that "movies" of this ilk are considered okay by a portion of society. Images/movies like this cause desensitization, essentially leading to erosion of civility in society in bites so small you probably wouldn't notice. Look around, the news is full of examples; teens and adults that used to pull wings off insects, but graduated to maiming and killing cats/dogs, then onto people, a recent story that ran in Savannah, GA paper about a woman who came home to find she'd been robbed, but could only find one of her two dogs. There was a funky smell in the house. The police officer discovered her terrier roasting in the oven at 400F, I've had friends who's home has been robbed, the cat nearly beaten to death and bleach poured into fish tanks. They replied to my mail. Based on the lack of grammar, and grasp of the English language, I'm not surprised that a stunt like this would be executed by them. Lilly ps: Logic, I though BK was cute too. Have you seen http://www.dansdata.com/kitten.htm ? OBLIGATRY GOLDFISH COMMENT: The Oranda, the survivor of the 3 goldfish I put in a friend's pond, is happily bobbling around the "lake." She's grown so much this summer and no longer looks like a fingerling next to the 12"+ Comet. I can't wait to net her and get her back into the tank so I can see all her glory. Just wish the other two made it; one death to dragonfly larvae and one (presumably) to a large frog since we never found it. Maybe I did better with the Cherry Barbs and Pearl Gourami, hopefully there are lots of babies from them. |
