I have a 72g bow with a small (~6g) sump.
The tank has been neglected for the past year- never really got the reef going past a couple of mushrooms and polyps. Looking to revitalize it now as the d i v o r c e finalizes.... I've been thinking about buying an Urchin skimmer (not Pro- don't have the cabinet clearance) to replace my CPR counter current model. I've been offered a used Berlin Classic skimmer for $50 (no pump). This skimmer has a much higher capacity rating (250g) vs the Urchin (75g). My thinking (in no particular order) is like so: *Berlin: Cheap- (good) higher rated capacity (good) Need a Mag7 in my sump (bad: noise/power/heat) Some bad/mediocre reviews (bad) Somewhat larger footprint (bad) *Urchin: More expensive (bad) Pushing rated capacity (bad) Uses small MaxiJet1200 (good) Excellent/good reviews (good) small footprint (good) Does anyone have a recommendation for me given the above concerns (or any others)? How ugly is tht to look at ?
A mag3 in the tank and a smelly/noisy skimmer to look at? I'd rather use the sump if possible. That way I am not staying awake at night worrying about a leak/overflow. Thanks. agreed that the HOB are unsightly, but if you don't have a sump it's about
your only choice. and the Pro versions with the Mag 3 in tank do hog up a good bit of space in the tank and create an eye sore. kc "Chimera" wrote in message m... How ugly is tht to look at ?
