Hi All,
I am always finding weird things growing from my LR. About 2 months ago this stuff appeared that looked like green grape vines. Any idea what it is? It has started growing everywhere and even though I cull it is is starting to grow out of my corals and killing them. ~m |

Maybe Valonia sp. algae? http://images.google.com/images?q=valonia+sp&hl=en Try to understand how would it "kill corals"... Healthy corals do not let algae growing on them... it happens when coral does die. |

Sounds like grape caulerpa??? I grow it in my sumps but can get out
of control in the display tank. May want to get a tang or other herbivorous critters..... http://www.fishpalace.org/C_racemosa.html billy -- ¼á "Michael Lawford" wrote in message ... Hi and thanks for the replies. Well I definately have some of the stuff
Pszemol suggested but that is not what it is. It is definately grape caulerpa and it is a bloody nuisance. It keeps getting longer and more intertwined - I have a regal tang and a coral beauty but it still keeps going. Anything else that could get rid of it? ~m "Billy" wrote in message ... Is it worth it - or should I just keep trimming it back - which is the
better option? ~m "Wayne Sallee" wrote in message ... If it's caulerpa, you could get a caulerpa eating slug. I had a large clump of caulerpa that was growing at the top of one of
my live rock stacks. I just kept cutting it back, and eventually it stopped growing. During the same period, I finally got my newbie green algae problem eliminated (nearly) through reduction of phosphates. I don't know if the reduction of phosphates assisted in eliminating the caulerpa. (Not implying that you have a water quality problem; just telling you my experience.) My purple, kole, and scopas tang all eat caulerpa. I had a problem with
saw tooth caulerpa and cuting it back and these herbavoires took care of it. |

You can just keep cutting it back. The caulerpa slug is
not anything of real value. wholsalers don't even sell them. They just come in on the caulerpa.
