Default white things....

I moved around some rock yesterday and found two different white things.

1) They look like fuzzy little volcanoes, really small cones with a hole in
the center. There was one that was bigger it appears they grow wider around
the base as they get larger, they have the look of cotton.

2) Appears to be white Coralline but I have never seen that before, does it
exist? There are specks on the glass in the back of the tank that feel like
coralline and don't come off too easily. I also found the same white stuff
growing on one of the rocks back there.

Since adding my power compacts I have noticed a LOT more growth over the
last two weeks on the rock and some of the stuff I just can't find on the
net.

The first one is probably a Keyhole Limpet. They are cool creatures that are
similar to a snail or slug that find things to eat and cause no trouble at all.
I had a big one at one point, 1.5" in length but one day it died. However, not
before it made many many babies. None of them grow big though, but I always
find some in either of my tanks.

The second one is tougher, because you didn't describe what it looks like. Is
it a flat speck? Or could it be a tiny curled up hard worm-like shell? If it
is flat, it may indeed be the first speck of coralline that will color up over
time. If it is the curled up hard thing, it is a spirorbid worm. Both are
safe.

Its like a flat speck. It started growing on a piece of rock that looked
like a skeleton. After a few months I noticed the skeleton started to get
whiter and now I noticed that it is very white on the tips and the white
specks have started collecting on the glass. If it was any other color I
would have just assumed it is coralline but I have never seen white
coralline before.

Sound like a species of sponge (Class Porifera) (fuzzy little
volcanoes), without seeing it that's what it sounds like, I have seen
them grow in dark out of the way places. The older your tank becomes
the more you will eventually see, In one of my tanks in just over a two
year period I had approximately eight different species of sponge show
up. They are great for your tank and aid in the filtration of water.

Do these things move "fuzzy little volcanoes" or just always in the same place, sound like
Scypha sponges

No it isn't one of those and judging from the pictures I've seen of Keyhole
Limpets it is not them either. It really does look like a little piece of
cotton baton. Almost like someone took the end of a Q-tip off and turned it
over so the hole would be in the middle. I will try and get a picture but my
picks don't turn out very good on small things.

What kind of live rock do you have and where did it come from, this will
help in identifying where the little guys come from.

I have Fiji and Tonga. This particular rock (they are all on one) was a
Tonga rock I believe, that is if that particular LFS was telling the truth.

Is there any good sites that have databases of different mushrooms, sponges
etc. that I could browse through? I have done searches and looked through RC
but haven't found anything that looks like these. They are still too small
to get a good shot of (about half the diameter of a pencil eraser).

My best guess without seeing it, is that it is of the Leucosolenia
species, it is very common on the rock from these two areas.

Just so you know Kelly Leucosolenia is a sponge, which is usually branched like a tree

Go here and start looking, click on Invertebrates, then sponges and check Tunicates also

http://www.reefimages.com/

1 Is it branched ?

2. Does it move or is it stationary ?

A photo would be nice
