Does anyone have some advice in moving a tank? We are moving to a new house so its a big job. I have a 55 gallon with 40 pounds sand (live) and about #40 LR. A couple corals a BTA and a crab, shrimp and one fish. I left it understocked because I knew the move was coming. I have a 20 gallon that I can use for whatever.
I thought I would move everything into the 20 and then set the 55 up at the new house then take everything over in buckets. Does this sound like a ok idea? I know that the sand and the rock needs to be kept most and warm and the inhabitants obviously. I would really like not loose the life in my sand its taken almost a year to get this tank under control. Thanks for advice, Kelly |

I moved a 55g 1.5 years ago, and it took me about 4 hours or more until the
livestock was back in the tank. You can read the details he http://www.sparklingfloorservice.com/tank/55gal.html Buy some new trashcans ($7 at Home Depot) and use them to move water, rock and corals. Don't disturb your sandbed at all if possible. Marc Kelly wrote: Does anyone have some advice in moving a tank? We are moving to a new house so its a big job. Wouldn't carrying the tank with that much wet sand stress the seems of the tank too much though? Last thing I want to do is break the seals on it.

If possible, it would be ideal to slide a board under the tank to support it
better. 4 people carrying the tank would be necessary. We moved a 55g with a 4" DSB from the back bedroom to a pickup truck, and from the truck to its new home without incident. And we didn't use a board, btw. 4 people carried it. Marc Kelly wrote: Wouldn't carrying the tank with that much wet sand stress the seems of the tank too much though? Thanks Marc, that's what I was thinking 1" should be enough to carry it if there isn't a lot of over hang.
