Anyone here ever use this stuff before?
It came recommended as the best.... The instructions say it "might" turn the water a little brown but it would disappear quickly. Well, I got one of those phosban reactors to maximize efficiency but it turned my refugium into COFFEE! It was so dark you could not see in to it. The tank cleared up after a day to reaveal a cyano bloom. It's been a few days now and the cyano is worse now than it was before the ROWAphos. Can someone help me understand this? TIA ~Mort |

Can someone help me understand this? Cyanobacteria allways grows when the tank lost the stability, some sudden change happen. In your case, it could be sudden phosphates drop. In my case, cyano attacks when I do too big water change to dilute nitrates too much (like 40-50%). Maybe you overdosed this phosphate removal filters and the environment change was to drastic? |

Yeh I use it,
it drastically reduced the phosphate in my 50Gal, well to a reading of zero actually, They say it will remove silicates after a while too, I'm happy with the product. Nick. Anyone here ever use this stuff before? I use it. It has worked very well for me. It came recommended as the best.... The instructions say it "might" turn the water a little brown but it would disappear quickly. Well, I got one of those phosban reactors to maximize efficiency but it turned my refugium into COFFEE! It was so dark you could not see in to it. I didn't experience this at all. As recommended in the instructions, I made sure there was filter material all around the stuff. I use it in a Eheim AquaBall filter. This filter came with a little cartridge with a finel filter in it. I took that out and put the ROWAphos in that cartridge, left the aquaball prefilter in place, and put another small filter pad after the ROWAphos. The instructions said to make sure none of it could enter the tank and it seems this did the trick for me. I have to clean these filters a lot, but generally clean them in the main tank so that the critters can eat whatever is in them. (I run the AquaBall in my sump.) The tank cleared up after a day to reaveal a cyano bloom. It's been a few days now and the cyano is worse now than it was before the ROWAphos. Can someone help me understand this? Perhaps as someone else suggested, your tank has changed too fast? I started using it before my phosphates were too high, just noticed they were starting to rise and decided to do something about it. I use it in my hangon CPR refugium. It turns solid after awhile. I'm using
it passively with low flow rate. 45 gallons an hour. My tank looks healthy. |
