Default gold nugget plecos

Does anyone here have any experience with gold nugget plecos? I bought two
of them for quite a pretty penny and they only lasted about a month. All
other fish in the tank have been doing fine for months now and still appear
to be very healthy. It is a 46g planted tank with two pictus catfish, two
clown loaches, ~14 tiger barbs, two plattys, a ropefish, a "regular" brown
pleco, and a gourami. I never witnessed any violence while the gold nuggets
were in the tank. PH is probably a little high for them - ~8.2. I looked
at the info in Planet Catfish and get get any other idea why they died. The
death was sudden and they didn't look diseased. Could the high PH have done
them in? Anyone have any good/bad experiences with these fish?
