Default Strange Way to Eat

Two of my bettas have displayed a different eating pattern. Usually,

they'll
pounce on their Betta Bio-Gold pellets and gulp them down. But every now

and
then, they act like they can't open their mouths wide enough to gulp the
pellet. They'll nibble away at it and finally give up. Has anyone else

seen
this behavior?

I have one betta. I got him last Friday. I have yet to see him eat. When
I drop the pellets in, he comes over to insect them, maybe pokes at them and
swims off. He won't eat if I'm watching. The pellets always disappear
after a bit. He seems healthy & happy so I assume he is eating them in
privacy. Maybe he is waiting for them to soften up a bit.
