Malawis are from lakes in Africa that have VERY hard alkaline water. Angels
are from the South American rainforest rivers which are soft and acidic. You have two very different needs for each species of fish to be happy and healthy. Maybe the Angels have been tank bred and have come to tolerate hard alkaline water, if you live in the Colorado River area of the U.S. for example but otherwise I'd personally go for some of the dwarf cichlids- Rams, Kribs, Firemouths, Convicts, etc. if I had the need to mix some other type of cichlid in with Angels. Some of these are quite pretty and have the same water needs as the Angels. I can't remember if you can put Sevrums in with Angels but they would be lovely in the same tank if you can. If you want to go the other route and put something else in with the Malawis... well, I'm sure someone on here will have some suggestions. ;-) |

I have never kept rift lake cichlids but I know that they will not work
out with angels. I keep angels, kribs and dwarf gouramis together and they get along great. If it is colour you are looking for than look into the gouramis to go with the angels. If you already have the rift lake cichlids than look into another type of cichlid which comes from the same water type. Vicki Visit me on line at http://shamrock4u.250free.com |
