Default Bumblebee gobies/new brackish tank

Hi all,

I bought a couple of bumblebee gobies last week. Right now they are
in a 10g freshwater tank with some cory cats, danios, and a pleco.
Since doing some (admittedly late) research on the little guys, I
found that they like brackish water, hardness, and a higher
temperature, so I guess they need and deserve their own tank. They
will like it better, I'm sure, since the food competition is a little
intense. I have taken to shooting tubifex worms down to them in a
straw, but the other fish have caught on and now wait at the bottom of
the straw.

I intend to go this weekend and buy an eclipse 6g bowfront and make it
their new home. So I have a few questions. Firstly, it will be a
brackish tank, but since they are now in freshwater, should I salinate
the water in the new tank gradually to allow them some transition
time? For that matter, am I sentencing the little fellows to a slow
death by using them to cycle a tank? Are they hardy enough to stand
the inevitable spikes even though I am judicious about water changes?

I have two. They are presently quite small (~3/4"). Since the new
tank will be a species tank, is the 6g Eclipse big enough to
accomodate three or four of them? I have grown very fond of these
little fish in a short time, and would happily take on a couple more.
I realize they can grow to about 2" and are territorial.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan
