Default water softener question

my wife would like to "soften" our hard water a bit. I'm interested
too because I just can't lower the alkilinity of the fish tank. Are
there issues and\or recommendations with water softeners for aquarium
use that I need to consider?

Jefferson,

Take a look at http://www.marksfish.dipsy.cyberprog.net/marksfish/ Click on
DIY on the left then Peat filtration 1 or 2 if you're feeling adventorous
:-)

Hope this helps.

Gordon-
Terrific idea-soften and acidify at the same time. I could run
something like this in the basement...just pondering how I could run
the python uphill to do the water changes. Perhaps my wife could
bathe in it too for flaky skin g.
