I would like to get a Male Dwarf Gourami and am not sure I can pair
him with just one female. I would be adding him to my 10 gallon and only have room to add 2 fish. Are Gouramis like other fish where 1 male needs several females so the breeding attempts are spread out? Will just a single male do well alone? I'd not want to sentence him to a miserable life by himself. I do have a female Betta in the tank now....would she do as a tankmate for him? As always, TIA for any input! |

As always, TIA for any input! I'm not sure how well bettas & gouramis mix. I had a male betta in a 55 gal. community tank with some gouramis & other assorted fish. They all seemed to get along just fine until one day I came home & my poor betta was in shreds. I'm not sure who the culprit(s) were, but the betta died. I believe because both gouramis & bettas are anabatoids they do not mix well. You may want to consider another type of fish. Jacqui |

Subject: Quick ? about Dwarf Gouramis

What is an anabatoids? That is a fish that has a special organ, called a Labyrinth organ. This little gem allows them to breathe surface air...just like you and I. They can, however, still get oxygen out of the water via their gills....but mustbe able to reach the surface for a gulp of fresh air...or they'll drown. Yes....these fish can drown if held from reaching the surface. |
