The black-red sooty, fuzzy algae has stopped growing and spreading. The
pleco and ottos have cleaned much of the surfaces of the plants and rocks of this gross stuff. All new algae growth is a nice green color. I've also been using more of the other Flourish fertilizers along with the Excel. The plants have visibly grown and all are a darker green. I hope the red-black crud will all be gone in another week or two. Tonight I dropped slices of zucchini in for the ottos and plecs after the goldfish were fed. -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995... I was just wondering this morning how you were doing with your Excel/beard algae problem. I am beginning to get some of that nasty stuff on a few of my plants, and yesterday ordered a supply of Excel along with some Flourish. It should arrive by the end of the week. Your success story gives me hope. -- Mister Gardener |

Tonight I dropped slices of zucchini in for the ottos and plecs after the goldfish were fed. =========== I was just wondering this morning how you were doing with your Excel/beard algae problem. It took awhile, probably because there was so much of it in that one tank. It had a good head start. I think I'll go ahead and buy 1/2g of the stuff. I have 7 tanks set up right now plus the 6 betta tanks/bowls. I wish there was a cheaper source than Flourish Excel. I am beginning to get some of that nasty stuff on a few of my plants, and yesterday ordered a supply of Excel along with some Flourish. It should arrive by the end of the week. Your success story gives me hope. Please let me know how it works for you. I also have to give some credit to the ottos and plecos because they're still working on what's left of it. What's most encouraging is the algae now growing is a fine green haze on the glass instead of that nasty rapid growing black stuff. -- Koi-Lo.... frugal ponding since 1995...
