Thanks for all the replies. It seems that duckweed is no problem at all,
and I needn't worry about it a bit. snip I guess all I need to find is duckweed eating fish if it becomes a problem. Any recommendations? I don't know anything about fish, either. Galen Hekhuis NpD, JFR, GWA Kind of depends on what your plans are for this pond. You could put in feeder goldfish, who will breed like rabbits and you'll soon have a pond full of orange &/or dark greenish-brown to black goldfish, and no duckweed.... At which time you could look at it as an advance birdfeeder, as heron and kingfisher would love those orange ones. ![]() Or you could put in a couple koi of the same sex, that could keep the duckweed under control, yet the DW would produce faster than they could eat it.... the duckweed hopefully protecting them from getting eaten. If you plan to keep the birds out, fantail goldfish don't produce like feeders, or there are Walkins goldfish, or sarassa, or shubunkins, all goldfish. I'd probably go for the more colorful goldfish myself, and not get attached. If I remember correctly this is a fairly large natural pond, not close to the house. So advance bird feeder may be the less stressful plan. ![]() ----------------- (Do you know where your water quality is?) |
