Default UV Sterilizers

I am thinking of buying a UV Sterilizer. I have a 55g community tank.
Fish only plus some $&^%^%^$# snails. Plants are artificial. 20 +/-
fish. Emperor 400 filter. Tank is established.

Is there a benefit to the UV Sterilizer or do I just want to buy a new
toy? I plan to plumb it separately with a flow meter, pump and timer.

Thanks, in advance.

A UV sterilizer is useful to combat green water (which you may not
have), and to generally reduce the number of spores and bacteria
in the water column, which can help to control disease and improve
fish health. But, unless you have specific problem, it won't do a lot.

If you still want to go ahead and install one, you might find the
following useful:

Cheers,

Michi.
