Every now and then I see the one that vanished. but rarely. It used to be
there all the time now it just comes out very rarely. The other is out all the time. Should I get another one as these like company or maybe the two I have are fine? A third? Yes? No? TIA J |

Should I get another one as these like company or maybe the two I have are fine? A third? Yes? No? TIA J Clowns are very sociable, 5 is usually the minimum. My first 5 became 10 during the next year. My LFS had 4 bigger ones brought back, so they have joined my group. As these are nocturnal, being about 6 years old, 4 my first ones have joined them at night after being out all day, leaving one to look after the little ones in the day. The big ones come out around 6pm when lights go off, so for 2 or 3 hours they are all up, all 14 playing together, big and small getting on well together. The more the merrier is true, the bigger the group, the more you see and enjoy. Of course it means a big tank but they do grow slowly after reaching 3", so plenty of time for a bigger tank. Mine will be in 150g soon, 7' wide and 2' tall as they love height and width. If you get young ones, enjoy them as they will become nocturnal one day. |

I have 2 in a ten gallon tank, 3 in a 29 gallon and 6 in a 75 gallon tank. I have had them for about 3 years. I feed twice daily and those in the larger tanks come out of the foliage to eat. The two in the 10 gallon tank are quite unique. One comes out for the morning feed, while the mate comes out sometimes. The afternoon feed is problematical. The only time I see the Clowns in a group is feeding time. In the 75 they join with 9 Siamese Algae Eaters and shoal side to side in the front. Occaisionaly I get a community swarm going up and down the left corner. I look forward to these community swims. I miss the antics of the first year. Much more of the acting dead or creating a daisy chain around a plant. I see more of the 3 in the 29 gallon tank than the others, but seldom other than the swarming, do I see them seeking each other's company. Fish density is similar in the 3 tanks. dick |
