I had two clown loach in my tank and for a week or so they were out
regularly. Then they just dissapeared and I haven't seen either of them for at least a week. At first I thought they were just hiding out somewhere, but tonight while doing a partial water change I searched for them, around plants and inside the ornaments and they are nowhere to be found! Any idea what could have happened to them? I don't think there's anything big enough in the tank to have eaten them. All my fish are juveniles, the clowns were around 2 inches, I also have a bala shark (3.5"), rainbow shark (3.5"), some neons and corys (v. small), a swordtail and a few barbs (tiger and golden, all 3"). So where did the clown loach get to? Presumably even if the others did try and eat them (which I can't imagine) I'd still have found remains of the bodies? Cheers, Dan |

Do they bury themselves in it to hide or are they likely dead in there somewhere? Dan |

I have found them buried under the gravel a few times.
Luckily for me I added a few more into my 4ft tank and one of them has taken over as the ring leader. The ring leader comes out only during the day and hides inside it's cave at night. Ofcourse all the other follow it. I guess I was lucky with this guy. These fish are one of my favourites, a very very funny personality. I tried to train my Black Ghost Knife to be hand fed, well instead ring leader is now hand tamed! The little piggy! I hope you find your 2 Loaches ![]() hiding in your tank somewhere. Do they bury themselves in it to hide or are they likely dead in there somewhere? Dan I have a runt that likes to dig a cave under two rocks when he is in one 10 gallon tank. I can only see part of his tail most of the time. I put him in that tank to cut back on the snail population. Before he found the two rock cave, he made one under a larger rock. That time I thought he had left the tank. Other times I put him in my 10 gallon quarantine tank. I have a castle ornament that he lives in there. I have two clowns in another 10 gallon tank that stay much of the time in a large ornamental house and water wheel. They come running at food time, but browse around the tank other times when not in hiding. In my 75 gallon tank I have 6 clowns. Right now I can't see even one in the tank. They often stay in the plant covering. But in my 29 gallon tank I have 3 clowns and all are swimming near the front right now. So, Clown Loaches do different things in different settings and different groups. I hope yours reappears. There certainly is a good chance your clown thinks it is a mole. |

They can be REALLY persistant at hiding in hollow ornaments, staying wedged in
place even whe the ornament has been removed from the tank. I had to cut one large decoration apart with a sabre saw to get some clowns out. -- Jim |

I lost mine for a week or so - eventually found them hiding up near the top of the tank behind a filter pipe hangining vertically if that's any help! I've also found them under rocks - no idea how they manage to get under there! I. |
