Default Pondless Waterfall Maintenance

We have just had a pondless waterfall built for our backyard. I'm just
realizing that I was given no instructions as to what we have to do to
maintain the pond.

Already, the water is starting to smell bad--sulphur odor. What do we
have to do to keep our waterfall pristine?

How long do we have to run it each day? The guy that installed it said
there was no real need to run a pondless waterfall each day if we
didn't need to.

Our pond contains approximately 250 gallons of water.

I appreciate your guidance. I should have sought it before now.
