Default My goldfish is floatng on the surface - swim bladder disease?

Hello All,

Firsto of all I have to apologise for my bad "english".

I have two goldfishes from 2001. I have 60 l aquarium, with plants, and
2 filters. Tank is well cycled. Tests of NO2 and NO3 are showinf always
minimal level (I am using TETRA and SERA tests). I am doing partial
water changes every week.

About 3 weeks ago one of my biological filters was accidentaly
disconnected from power, and second filter was too small to provide
enough filtration. By somwe days (maybe one week) quality of water went
down, it was really smelling, whan I found whats happend.

Now one of my goldfishes is floating as buoy on the surface of water.
Even during feeding I sow that this goldfish had troubles to get fod
from bottom of aquarium. It looks that fish swim bladder is full of gas.

I already make 4 days without any food, and next only green peas, but
without result. Today I wil prepare hospital tank to make salt dip tomorrow.

I do have two questions:
1) If swim bladder is attacked by some bacterial/virus infection will
salt dip will help?
2) What are the others methods of curing this disease? I found on Polish
aquarium newsgroup that disease happends to significant number of
goldfishes.

Thanks a lot in advance,

Adam

swim bladder disease is do to many factors, one is a small bladder on
ornamental carps, other is air intake when they feed from the surface.

hope this helps

Thanks a lot for advice. I know PUREGOLD,
(http://users.megapathdsl.net/~solo/puregold) its an excelent source of
GF informations. Unfortunately from today I cannot access it. I tryied
using IE, Opera and Netrscape browsers. In every case result was the
same: PAGE NOT FOUND.

Thanks the god I have found some old printout from this page describing
Chinese Water method. Well, I hope that I have understod it corectly -
tube should be inside aquarium? What about aeration? What kind of tube
(matrerial shouldn't stop oxygen I guess?

regards,
Adam

heater should be set in the tank so the fish cannot sit on it and burn themself.
aeration is not as big an issue cause the depth of the water is so low that the water
oxygenates pretty well. walking the fish is important as is keeping that water
absolutely clean. Ingrid
