injured fish question by
Trevor
Hi
My pair of Dempseys have just spawned and have obviously been defending
their spawning site with zeal. One of my pair of Oscars has taken a hit or
two as I can see missing scales. I also have a pair of Peacocks and one of
them has taken a hit to the side which has left a small open wound

Most and least aggressive cichlids? by
aquadd
I'm interested in cichlids from Lake Malawi. Which types are least
aggressive? Peacocks?
I want some pretty fish and I'd like to see them breed, but female
peacocks are ugly, so if I go with peacocks it'll be an all male tank.
Are there any species/groups that aren't too aggressive and have...

silly question by
Colleen Dawe
Have you ever heard of using non clumping non scented kitty litter in tanks
with cichlids? It is supposed to be placed in the tank then a fine layer
of gravel added over it. I have heard of a few people doing this and I was
wondering if anyone here has ever tried it.

"Cichlasoma" facetum by
Sarotherodon
I have an adult breeder pair and one extra female chanchitos. They are the
"oblongum" variety and originally came from Tangled Up in Cichlids. They
are much more colorful than most strains. I doubt that the "oblongum" is a
valid species, but that is the name they are being sold under. Anyhow,...

Angels, Fry Fry Fry why do they die by
skozzy
I used to remove the parents to a new tank and not the fry, if its a
community tank then your pushing your luck. Feeding the fry, well I used a
liquid fry feed for a long time until they grew bigger, then feed them on
flake food that was put in a blender and turned into dust.
Feeding amounts for...

Skin Irritation by
Jonathan Wood
Actually, my fish are not cichlids, they are local wild fish.
I've got two tanks that are fully cycled with ammonia and nitrites safely
under control. Nitrates are also within acceptable range. Besides the water
being a little hard and some variations on alkalinity, everything is pretty
well...

Sand as substrate on african tank by
SA
Hi all,
I have gravel on my African's tanks and I was thinking of changing it to
sand. I have juvenile mbunas, and I have read that they prefer to play in
sand, is that true? I think I like the look of sand better, but will it be
better for the fish?
If so is it true that I can use pool filtering...

Water problems? My Firemouth Cichlids died =( by
John
In the past 3 months, I have had 2 firemouth cichlids die. One was
several 2 years old and one was 1 year old. I am wondering if there
might be something wrong with my water. I have tested the water this
morning, after finding my firemouth dead, to find the following:
pH = 7.0
NO2 = 0.3...

I've put up a page with my current photo gallery of my similis tanks and

safe ammonia level by
Rosebud
rosebud:
I try to keep a resonable tank for our chiclids. The ammonia level
seems to be stayin at a level of between 0-1ppm. My assumption is
that this a good level. But I wonder sometimes if it should be
better.
I use spring water when I do water changes. I have tested the clorine
and ammonia...
