Exercising Fish? by
George Thompson
My comet seems to spend hours of delight, swimming from one side of the
tank to the other. He touches one side with his mouth, turns, and swims
back.
Occasionally he stops. Swims to the castle, nibbles, then does a few
laps of the tank.
Off he goes again...
Any ideas? Is this a fishy attempt...

pearlscale keeps getting stuck by
Rodney
I have a new pearlscale that seems to have a knack for getting stuck. First time was behind the undergravel tube, second time beneath the bubble curtain, and third time behind the heater. Is there anything wrong with him?

How long in the bag by
Kodiak
Bought a small feeder goldfish at the petstore, but was in transit for 5
hours.
Is 5 hours too long to stay in a bag? The fish is about 1" long, the bag had
about 4 cups of water.
I put him in the tank, fish seems ok now, but not moving around like the
other ones. He is not eating
either, does it...

Ich and temp, and floating by
LoaderLady
What temperature should water be to keep ich back? I have a 90g tank which
isn't heated but stays around 74 to 75 degrees. I noticed a few grains on
one of my black telescopes. Is the water too cool? Is it better to
Quarantine the fish I see with spots? I would guess it is better to treat
the...

Shubunkin fins twitch fast by
[email protected]
Hello,
I have a couple of Shubunkin's and I have noticed that they will
sometimes twitch their dorsal and pectoral fins extremely fast and then
swim fine. I don't think the current is the problem. It does not look
like it is pleasant to them.
Is this normal or is something wrong with them?
any...

Black moor died (was "Is my black moor sick?") by
Mike
Hi guys,
I had several helpful replies about my black moor, that has had long
white poop and was acting tired for several days. Sadly, he died
today.
Here's the thing, though. Out of a tank of 5 small comets (1-2"), a
black moor (4-5"), and a fantail (4-5"), inside of a month 3 comets
and the...

Got some better news today... by
T
I want to thank everyone that was thinking about my situation, I managed to
find a LFS willing to take my stock, and about 95% of it... I took my common
GF, small Koi and 6 tf barbs to him today. Ended up with $37 store credit,
and he was willing to take my other fish as well. If someone said a...

Glass tank decorations by
GiveMeABMW
I'm guessing it would be all right, but I figured I'd ask first:
Are solid glass not-specifically-made-for-acquarium decorations OK to put in my
tank?
(cleaned first, of course)

Rescued Large Goldfish - very very ill - please advise urgently !!! by
Nebukadnezar The Third
Hi,
I rescued this poor thing from an office where it was alone in a
filthy tank that actually had MOULD growing on the gravel. The tank
smelled awful and the poor fish (not sure what variety, but it's about
7 inches long with fancy fins) was just sitting in a corner on the
bottom, motionless. I...

Is my Black Moor sick? by
Mike
Hi guys,
I had posted before, I'm working with my first tank ever, a 55 gallon
tank with goldfish. I've been reading as much as I can, but not
finding answers to quite everything.
My black moor is about 4-5" long, and he's been in my tank for less
than a month. He's always been a little lazier...

Fish problems. Dropsy? by
George Thompson
Sorry if this comes as a second post, but I'm a little worried, and
I've been off investigating!
Right, stats first:
Temperature is 21'C-22'C (72F) - I'm buying a heater tomorrow. Info
on how they work make/models recommended would be helpful
Nitrites - 0 (not sure if I believe that)
Nitrates -...

Re-post [Fish problems] by
George Thompson
The old thread was getting to long for my newsreader :- )
The fish is (obviously still recovering) but much, much better!
Her anal port is now normal (that happened almost over night) Fins are
up & scales down, and she's sleeping an awful lot. I put this down to
tank boredom. After live food...

Boiled water by
George Thompson
Is boiled (not distilled) water OK to put in a tank?
I was told that if I raised the temperature by using normal tap water,
boiled water & declor that it would be safe to put in my tank. Is this
true?
(Fish update - just put some live daphnia in the tank for my ill fish.
Suddenly she's zooming...

How often to replace them?
I've had the filter going for over a month now (cleaned it out 2x so far) and
both sets are looking a little dingy, but the filter hasn't slowed down at all.

Salt for Nitrite? by
Kodiak
I read somewhere that the Chloride in Salt competes with Nitrite
to be absorbed by the fish's gills. Having salt effectively creates an
insurance
buffer against a potential Nitrite problem.
Does that mean that breaking in a new tank/filer setup, it might be wise to
add salt?
I wonder if the salt...
