CF lights fade in? by Ross Vandegrift
Hello everyone, I'm usually still in bed when my tank lights come one, but this morning I wasn't. And when they did, I noticed that they seemed very dim. Slowly, they got brighter. I'm a bit concerned that the ballast is going south or something. It's an AH supply kit with a home built hood. ...

Magnesium in Aragonite by Bill Stock
I've decided to give up on PMDD and go with mega doses of K (10 - 20 ppm per week), P and N as required. I'll still keep dribbling the Trace Elements every week. The one thing I'm not sure about is the Magnesium levels. The recommended level is up to 10 ppm, but should I treat this like the...

M3 CO2 gauge by [email protected]
In a fit of brilliance, I blew out the working pressure gauge on my M3 CO2 regulator. Are these available? Has M3 gone out of business (I can't find them on the web anymore)? Any suggestions? Thanks! Bob Ontario, California

Mayaca or Rotala or what? by Elaine T
I have a plant growing in my tanks that I'd like to ID. I got it at LFS, unidentified. There was a sprig in my bunch of R. indica that grew so I went back and bought more. Pic is at http://eethomp.com/Temp/unknown.html (warning...large download) and the plant is the fine one in the foreground. ...

I read somewhere about micronized iron that you can add to the filter. I am having trouble keeping the iron up in my tank. Anyone have any ideas?

q about effective lightning by [email protected]
Hi, I am still on my quest to add more lightning to my 36" tank. I am torn between a 96W single light or a 2X55W bulbs solution. What is the effective watt for the 2X55W considering that they are I believe 21" PC? Obviously it is not 110W although I will be paying for that rate.

Setting up new planted tank... by Phil Williamson
Hi all, I'm planning on setting up a 15 gal high tank and would like to plant it. I'm planning on lining the bottom with an inch or so of fluorite and then an inch of black sand that I have left over from other tanks. I have a Hagen CO2 canister system that uses yeast, aquaclear 150 (and a mini...

algae equilibrium by [email protected]
Focus on the needs of the plant, you don't have algae issues, truces etc. The goal is to grow plants, so set out to do just that. It does not require CO2, extra work etc either. Non CO2 tanks and using Excel is fairly easy. Regards,

Bogwood/grapewood by Richard Sexton
Bogwood is wood that has been taken from a peat bog. The tannic and humic acids preserve the wood in a sort of quasi petrified state. I'm playing around with throwing bits of wood in a var of wet peat for a few months. I'll report back when I'm done. As for the question of grapewood in the...

amorphous debris by Richard Rosenfeld
I have a 70 gal tank with 260w cf lighting, tank co2, ph monitor with solonoid to shut off co2. My plants have been growing great, fish are happy. I keep the Ph about 6.7-6.8. There is no algae problem, but I have been getting this amorphous stuff on some of the plants. I looked...

Lightning question... again... by [email protected]
Hi, My tank is 36"L and 12"W... so if I was getting one of aqualights systems or retrofits, 36" is the size I should be getting right? If the answer is yes, all of the systems come with 96W bulbs. And I would have an open tank. Not too keen on it but if it's an option I will consider.
