substrate technique name by
[email protected]
Hello, I'm trying to find a reference or the name of a common way of
setting up crushed coral substrate. The name Joebert or Joeber rings a
bell but I'm not getting very far with search engines.
Basically, a flow-through shelf is placed in the bottom of the tank so

Problem with my tree coral (Capnella type maybe?) by
Benjamin Slade
I'm having a problem with my tree coral (type is Capnella maybe?). I
think there's some sort of thing growing on it which is attacking it,
but I want to make sure it's not part of the coral. Take a look at
pictures at:

You can see a tube...

Button polyp control by
Yuriy Krushelnytskiy
Hello,
I have two pieces of live rock that have star and button polyps. The
rock has been in my tank for about half a year and those polyps are
spreading like weeds.
I intend the tank to be SPS/LPS and I've heard that star polyps tent
to overgrow SPS corals. In addition I don't have activated...

RJAG
I have had a lot of live rock in my tank for ages without success. 37 Kg in
a 40 Gallon tank seems like over kill so following some advice I moved some
into the sump and removed the other media. this allows no dead spots flow
wise in the main tank but how do I light the sump.
I had calerpa in...

Michael Lawford
Hi - my hippo tang has white sopt. It started off not too niticable but now
is all over him. I know these fish are very prone to it and my LFS says to
igonore it and do not dose any medicine, but I cant help thinking that I
should be.
Any advice on what point to start dosing?

Breeding.... by
Paul Aspinall
Hi
I would like to try to breed some Marine specimens...
Several years ago, when I had a tropical tank, I successfully bred
Guppies.... (Who hasn't...).
I would like to know opinions on anything that may be suitable for a newbie
Marine breeder.
Thanks

This distrust of glass canopies seems like bunk by
Fjord
okay, I hear that 1/4" of glass is bad when placed between your 4-5
watts per gallon lighting and your corals. It limits the transmittance
of the light spectrum, i hear.
However, when scuba diving I routinely see photosynthetic corals in 70
feet of water.
How can 1/4" of glass wreak more havoc...

our impact by
[email protected]
Hello everyone,
I have a basic question to satisfy my own curiosity: Is anyone else
ridden with guilt over this hobby or is it just me? I just left That
Fish Place and apparently it was fish receiving day. There must have
been 20 styrofoam coolers on the floor filled with new fish. Of
course,...

Moving from reef to fish only..... by
Paul Aspinall
Hi
I've kept marines for a number of years, but unfortunately, despite initial
success, I've started to have a number of problems.
For a number of reasons, I've now decided to go fish only...
Can anyone recommend some products for removing the Aptasias that I'm
overrun with in my tank and...

chloramine and oceans by
[email protected]
I've heard about chloramine in tap water, and that it is very hard to
get out of the water, and that it kills fish, including salt water
fish. Well, all that tap water runs into the oceans, which contain a
lot of salt water fish. Does chloramine in ocean water naturally
decompose?

I ma fairly new to the hobby (reef keeping) and probably need good

Test results are as follows.

Ca - 600
Ph 7.6 -8.0 (using 3 different...

A few refugium questions. by
Mark Cooper
Hi folks,
I have a 29 gallon tank with a sump I made from a 20 gal long tank. I
have about 8 gallons worth devoted to a refugium with live sand, some LR
rubble, and some caulerpa. One thing I didn't plan for is bits of plant
matter coming loose, and while I can just put the sponge attachment...

lighting obsession sounds like rubbish to me by
Fjord
I'm setting up my first nano-reef. I'm reading some debates on
lighting, especially whether or not to use a glass hood. A common
concern I've heard is that glass will limit the transmittance of
certain wavelengths of light to the detriment of coral growth.
I scuba dive, and I've regularly seen...
