questions from a newbie about sumps by
Wayne
I have a 50 gallon bow front tank with approx 100lbs LR, some soft
corals, seabae anemone, pair of damsels, pair of clowns, 1 small yellow
tang, various shrimp, snails, crabs, 2 brittle stars (other smaller
stars that I have caught glimpses of which probably came with the LR).
The sand bed is about...

Restarting a reef. Some questions.... by
Craig Wolanyk
I am resetting up a reef tank after being away from the hobby for about 7
years and I know that a lot has changed.
I was thinking of running a deep sand bed refugium with a protein skimmer
and no wet-dry section. I have read that mechanical filtration is not
necessary (and raises nitrates).
Do...

stand by
Tre' Landrum
Anyone have any experience in building tank stands? Things like where
exactly do you put the support... router out the top of the 2x4 for the tank
to recess into? put a border around the edge? I am quite good at wood
work...but I just want to make sure it doesn't come crashing down. Thanks!

I AM SOOOO STUPID AND KNEW BETTER (Damselfish) UPDATE by
Ray Martini
One of the LFS in the area rents out the Ultralife "The Trap" for $7.00
(keep it as long as you need it). He told me it would probably take about a
week to catch the Dmasels. WRONG!!! Within 24 hours I caught both Damsels
and I am happy to report that they are no longer in my tank! The first...

New type of DSB by
Tre' Landrum
Here is a thought I have had (no time or money to test it out) but how about
having a multi stage DSB? IE instead of having one ten gallon tank for your
DSB how about having 3 3 gallon DSB's? You can then rotate out one bed every
year. This would get rid of all the bad things in the DSB that just...

Ich question by
DeeOooGee
I have a Kole tang that has been doing great (or so I thought). I have had
him for about a month and a half. I noticed over the last few days that he
has what looks like two small slices(one on each side) on his tail. Is this
normal? It didn't seem to bother him and they look identical, so I...

Green Star Polyps, propagation question by
phloater
et al,
I have a green star polyp colony that is growing like crazy and started
growing up the glass. Some crabs dislodged part and it is folded over
on itself. Are these things durable like leather corals that you can
just cut with a blade and its ok? Or do they have to be coaxed? I
started...

Which return pump? by
Skylove
I'm debating between three pumps, the Quiet one 3000, Mag-Drive 7, and a Rio
2500. The price difference is too small to worry about so that doesn't
matter. I'm curious about which one has the least amount of problems,
easiest to clean etc. I don't want to drill my sump (10-gallon aquarium)
hence...

Dreaded Brown Algae by
Peter Pan
I have a 75 gal tank that is established for 2 years. I recently added more
Live rock (25lbs) to bring it up to 75 lbs. Since then I am again battling
the dreaded Brown algae. I did a partial water change yesterday, and today I
have traces of the Brown menace already in my DSB. Is there anything I...

Two Filters....? by
Mr-Moonlight
Ok... I'm having my live rock filter as suggested to make all things
natural for my tank... BUT I have been told that a live rock filter
system will half the ammount of fish my tank can take...
How many fish will my 40 (UK Gal) tank take with coral and cleaners in
it? It's been hinted that my tank...

Clown Fish Behaviour Question by
[email protected]
Hi. I was wondering if someone can help me out with this.
I recently added two ocelaris clowns to my tank. They seemed really
healthy and active at the store. I've had them for about 1 week but
all they seem to do is swim at the corner of the tank behind some
rocks. They haven't left that...

recommendation for protective gloves? by
Captain Feedback
Hi folks;
I'm looking for some good protective gloves to wear while cleaning the
inside glass of my tank. I bought some from my LFS, can't remember the
brand, and they leaked. Recently I got a pack of Tunze gloves, and the
two I've used so far have leaked too. This surprised me given the...

Strontium - Tank has bad smell after dosing it. by

For those that have smelt their bottle of Strontium and know the foul smell
it has like rotting flesh.
Well I dosed my tank last week and I have been noticing a bad smell in the
air.
The smell seems stronger in the morning when you first wake up, and the
tanks downstairs smells all the time, I...
