Boomer - calcium testing unit by
Marc Levenson
Can you take a look at these and let me know if they are worth it or
not? A guy in our club was considering buying one, and I figured you'd
know the score.

ROWAphos... by
Mort
Anyone here ever use this stuff before?
It came recommended as the best....
The instructions say it "might" turn the water a little brown but it would
disappear quickly.
Well, I got one of those phosban reactors to maximize efficiency but it
turned my refugium into COFFEE!
It was so dark you could...

Nitrate test - wait time? by
Stu
My nitrate test kit says to wait five minutes before comparing the
colour against the chart. I assume usually this would be for the
colour to develop and if anything, show a higher reading (and
stabilise). However I've noticed that after the five minutes I get a
lower reading.
Eg last night I did a...

Moving reef and the like... by
Phloater
Hiya
I have a question. Right now my 45 gallon reef just has one inhabitant
a clown fish. I plan on moving the tank in the next 3 weeks and was
wondering if this might make the move easier in regards to tank cycling.
I plan on setting up my new tank with a DSB and tossing the old tank
which was a...

Aqua Medic Protein Skimmer Question by
TomW
I've been having great success with this protein skimmer until a few weeks
ago.
It does not seem to be producing as many bubbles now, and certainly not as
much "stuff" in the collection area. I have removed the pump, opened and
examined for blockages & did not find anything wrong.
Any...

Jebo Skimmer by

I was just wondering if anybody has any experience with the jebo protein
skimmers. They seem cheap compared to other skimmers.

Magnifica lighting by
hyperoglyphe
Response to my previous posts about a wandering H. magnifica, were helpful
in determining the solution.
It appears a combination of factors. Originally the MH 150 (not 175) was
about 12 inches from the tank, so I thought it was lack of light. I also
had no direct current. To remedy, I was...

pump suggestions & fish compatibility by
Steve \Srfmon\
I need a good pump for sump return for a new 180g FOWLR. The tank is not
set up yet but I'd like to get all the pieces before making the change from
the 60g. I'm currently using a mag7 for return on the 60g. The old tank will
be my new sump.
As for the fish I currently have a dogface puffer,...

Blue Goo by
Dave Town
Hi Guys...
I've had this blue (or maybe aqua colored) or gelatinous stuff growing
in my tank since... forever - 18 months anyway. It was dime sized, but
now it's spreading over some of my green star polyps and I'm thinking
I should erradicate it. Anyone know what this stuff is, good, bad,...

MH Distance from water... by
Mort
I am in the proccess of constructing a canopy for my 75gal reef so I can add
my MH bulbs.
Due to a mis calculation, my lights are going to be 8 to 9 inches from the
surface of the water.
The bulbs are 400watt Blueline 10000k + and I will be running two of them.
I know I should be more like 10 to...

Kenya Tree fragging by
Pszemol
Hi, I got a small cuttling of kenya tree or colt coral today
from my friend. The frag is small, about 1" cut from its tree
crown - I placed it in a small containter with bubbling water
and I am not sure what exactly should I do with it...
What is the best way to attach it to the rock?
Should I pin...

Additives/Vitamins by
Mike
Can someone demystify the additives/vitamins supplements in a reef setup
mystery for me? I feel like I need a PhD in microbiology for this hobby
sometimes. For example, if you had to select say 5 additives, what would
they be?

Tank question ( new one :) by
AAA
If I have an acrylic tank would it be a smart idea to place a drain hole
on the very bottom plate, so if I ever wanted to drain it, I could just
attach a garden hose to it?
I have a similar set up now. I drilled a hole about 15% down from the
top and now all I have to do to do a water change is...

Leather got burnt on heater by
skozzy
Because of a sudden cold run in the weather I put in the tank a seconds
heater, this was just pressed onto the front glass, anyhow, my leather coral
seems to have grown a bit over the past week or the rock it is on moved a
little and a section of the coral was touching the heater. That area...

Reef Additives - Best Combination by
Wayne
Hi:
When it comes to adding to reef tanks does anyone have an opinion on the
best chemical's for calcium, iodine, and simply the total treatment. I have
consider Seachem, Kent, Tropic Marin, and Siefert. I currently use
Kalkwasser and Lugols solution, but the expansion on my corals could...

alk levels by

What is an acceptable alkalinity level range for a reef tank (with
small fish load and soft/lps and sps corals). Reason why i ask is im
heading away for a month and have been experiencing drops of around
1dkh per week. I usually aim for around 8dkh (as per NSW). Would it
upset things if i was to...
