Who ate my brain? by
Scott Bennett
I have a 75 gallon fish/reef tank that's been up for 6 months. I added
corals for the first time about 1 month ago. Today, I came home and a
lobe of my Trachophyllia open brain coral on the sand had been - it
looks like - chewed off. The lobe was down to white skeleton in about a
1/2" or 1"...

Powder Blue Tang - feeding by
Mark Elliott
My Powder Blue is growing nicely but will only eat Nori.
I've tried every type of frozen food I can think of - it might pick at some
occasionally but with no enthusiasm (even the types with algae in)
It picks at dried algae (Julian Sprungs mixed flakes), again not enough to
sustain body...

Drilling hole in glass aquarium- by
Mike
Hello,
I've been trying to drill a one and one eighth inch hole in the side
of a glass aquarium but everytime I get near to the end of the hole the
glass begins to crack. I am using a Diamond glass hole saw (with a drill
guide) and applying water for lubrication according to the manufacture.
They...

Anemone? by
Dan Norgard
Hi;
I just found what appears to be an anemone...It's about an inch in diameter
and sits in the sand out in the open. It is white and the tentacle tips are
about 1/2" long and magenta in color. It just sits there and, when
'teased', disappears faster than a paranoid featherduster. My son swears...

adding more Live rock question by
PaulB
If it is fully cured you can. If it doesn't smell bad it should be OK.
If you have quarantine facilities you might want to think about that, since
you could introduce certain bad things.

Queen Angel Eating - How To Get Them To Start by
Wayne
Hi:
I have an adult queen angel for approximately a week and can not get it to
eat. All the other fish in the same tank are eating just fine (red sea
purple tang, demsels, clowns, cardinals). The tank also contains soft
corals. He is slowly coming out more, but I get concerned when a fish...

Hyposalinity Question by
Rick
I have a Fish Only-Live Rock 120 gal aquarium which only one of my
tangs show signs of white spots. 3 weeks ago I started to lower the
Salinity to 1.009.
After carfully lowering the salinity to 1.009 so that there was no
shock to the fish, I got it lowered to 1.009. Now that the salinity
has...

How to Reseal a Tank? by
D.S.
I have a 60gal Hex tank that has sprang a leak somewhere at the bottom.
What is the best way to reseal it? I was told by someone at a LFS to scrape
off the old silicone and apply the new and then fill it with water. The
pressure of the water would then push the silicone into the cracks. ...

sand and crushed coral by
dennistillis
Would there been any negative benefit to placing aragonite sand on top of
crushed coral, about 2 inches of each in a 55 gallon aquarium that is being
set up for a reef tank?
Currently have about three inches of crushed coral on top of an undergravel
filter, definitely getting rid of the...

Algae problem after MH upgrade by
Jason Fitzgerald
About 2 months ago I upgraded the lighting on my aquarium to a Metal
Halide\Power Compact combination. A few days later my tank was covered in
diatom algea, hair algea, and red slime algae. I have tried everything to
get rid of the algea.....but it just comes right back! My setup is...

sps corals dying in upper region of the tank by
[email protected]
Hi everybody,
a friend of mine has a very strange problem. His sps corals are dying,
but only in the upper region of the tank. The tank is 2x1x0.8 meter, it
is lit by two 400 Watt metal halides and two 250 Watt MH's. The tank is
fitted with a large kalkreactor and skimmer, all the parameters...

Staghorn Reef Hermits? by
RicSeyler
Anyone else seen these? A LFS had 4 or 5 of there. The crabs were living
inside
of staghorn coral... They looked like the drilled a hole in a staghorn
frag and moved inside.
An interesting looking crab also. Light tan colored with one big claw
and some interesting markings.
Anyone know if it's...

Ocean Chemistry Question by
George Burnt
According to what I've read, the iron content in our aquariums should be
almost nil. When I lookied up what it is in the oceans, it was almost nil.
(0.000006 ppm).
Well here is my question for all you geology/chemist brains out there.
If the earth is made up of mostly iron, should there not be...

Unknown Fry Appearance... by
CheezWiz
Hi All,
I just discovered an unknown fry floating around the tank. I have contained
it in a net at the top of the tank. It appears to be in good health and
appeared out of no where. I only just started putting fish in this tank and
do not have a pair of anything that could mate.
Is there any...

Kent Nautlius TE Skimmer Problem by
Wayne
Hi:
Just purchased a new Kent Nautilus TE in sump skimmer and am using the Rio
2100 pump Kent recommends. I can not get the unit to generate real fine
bubbles. The bubbles in the skimmer are approximately 1/4" in diameter,
thus it is ineffective.
Does anyone have that skimmer which works well...
