Tank cycling time! by
Johnny H
Hi,
I'm going to setup a new small 20 gallon fish only tank and I already put
some live rock in it. Is there anyway to speed up the cycling time for a new
tank? so I can add fish sooner?
Thank You!

unsafe or not. by
robin.gordon1
my two juvenile clowns have suddenly taken a liking to my furry mushrooms,
as a proxy anemone. they roll on their sides among the furry(?) bits and
lay into the mushrooms at night. when feeding the mushrooms would
occasionally close up like an anemone. has this tricked them into thinking
that...

Not liking 10,000K MH bulbs by
Dieter Kedrowitsch
This weekend I drove out there to pick up some supplies and decided to
finally 'upgrade' from my 175W 5500K venture MH bulbs to some 10000K
bulbs. All they had in 10,000K was their house name "German" 10,000K.
They could tell me anything about the bulbs except they were German
made and would run...

Calcium Test Troubles. by
Mandarin333
Hi again all. I got my 90 set up with the southdown sand and it cleared after
much diatom filtration. I just tested the calcium levels for the first time
today using RedSea's kit. The problem is that I couldn't get a result. I
followed the directions exactly but the sample would not change from...

Need some Advice by
abc
Looking to get a 120 reef gallon tank. Its going to be in the wall. I was
thinking of a 5 footer that was 24 inches high and 20 inches width. Or go
with a standard 48x24x24 tank. What do you guys think ? Also what thickness
of glass should the tank be built with ? And should the bottom plate...

Southdown Woes. by
Mandarin333
Hi all. I am setting up a 90 reef and have added a bag and a half of Southdown
sand but now my water looks more like skim milk. I rinsed it lightly before
adding but that was no use. Any suggestions for getting the water to clear up
quickly? Is the cloudiness just due to the calcium the sand...

ETHICAL question about what i've done!! by
Slickwater
So during last spring semester at college I lived in a frathouse with
the majority of my fellow brothers. On of the brothers is a complete
piece of trash. I mean real scum. This guy would skim hundreds of
dollars out of our dues fund to furnish his room and pay for his share
of the rent. He is also...

nano reef live sand amount by
Tester
I have an eclipse system 6 that I am looking to turn into a nano with some
shrooms and a few small pieces of rock and what ever else happens to grow.
I wanted to put a live sand base, how many pound should I get for a tank
that size?
Also, what are the odds a false perc would survive in there, or a...

Air driven skimmer experiences? by
John Vernier Simon
I am interested in getting rid of the chiller on my reef tank, it adds
extra maintenance and complexity to something that should be a
relatively simple affair (at least that is the idea right ;). So in
this quest I am looking at lowering overall heat input in my tank. I
have already removed almost...

Xenia stinks! by
Pszemol
Have you noticed how (healthy) Xenia coral stinks when taken out of water?
Yesterday I was working on a frag for Mort and when doing the final
separation from the mother colony I put my nose too close and I was
reminded how stinky this coral was... I already noticed this odor weeks
ago, but I...

CO2 @ 30 bubbles per second? by
xfire
I have a Knopf Calcium Reactor, and after 8 years I need to
replace the CO2 pressure stage. I have 3 problems with the current
CO2 equipment.
1. Three times in the last year it has dumped all the pressure in
the 10 pound high pressure tank. I used to get a full year out of
a charge, but the last...

Mysid shrimps and DSB by
Pszemol
Have a question about mysid shrimps living in the tank with DSB.
I have read crabs/shrimps are not good for DSB as they hunt
on DSB creatures... This warning usually applies to larger crabs
like hermits and larger shrimps like cleaners...
Do they apply to mysids as well? Would I benefit DSB adding...

Cyano by

Quick question. I seem to be dealing with an outbreak of cyanobacterium.
(Which really makes me PO'ed given my weekly 15 percent water changes with
RO water and light fish load. So the question, what is the major cause of
this algae outbreak? Is it an excess of DOC? It doesn't make sense for it...

Building a Target Filter by
skozzy
What I mean by Target Filter is a tank designed for removing one problem and
not a general overall filter.
I have on occasions problems with phosphates building up, so I was thinking
of making a filter to 'Target' phosphates. The question is, what would I
make and where in-line of the water flow...

Help with new (used) equipment by
Ron Lawrence
Hi folks,
Like the post before this one, this is also my first posting here. I've had
a reasonable amount of luck with freshwater systems in the past and I'm
looking to make the slow jump to a marine setup. Initially, only fish with
the possibility of a reef tank in the future.
I recently found...
