need light for plants and too make em look pretty
but they do fine in dim rooms hey

Tank sounds fine.
Malawi cichlids are VERY easy.
They also come from rocky, sandys and muddy based places.
For decoration you can use anything, most tanks look like a messy jumble to
provide enuf...

I have plenty of damsel and wrasse and surgeon and blenny etc
My chromis are the best behaved fish of all.
All reef animals have a mean streak, it's how they survive such a hostile...

The brown algae is harmless diamtoeous algae.
You need to put a filter in there to process ammonia and nitrite.
If you cannot give the fish water free of ammonia and nitrite they will die.
