I'm setting up the hospital tank right now, best I could find today was a
med called Furan-2, contains nitrofurazone, furazolidone and methylblue trihydrate. I'll also ad salt to the mixture. Now being this is a Pleco, scaleless fish, does this med require 1/2 does, or can it be used full dose. Package does not state whether it's safe at full dose or not. Thanks everyone. A tablespoon of salt per 5 gals. should make it disappear in a week, but to keep from secondary infections, or preventive for the other fish within the tank, I would also add eather Kanamycin or Maracyn Two, to the tank - harmless to bio-filter.......Frank |

I could be completely wrong here, but I think Furan-2 is safe at full
dose (I think it's the malachite green and/or formalin meds which are too toxic), and.... plecos are considered scaleless?? I can't think of a more armoured fish. NetMax "D&M" wrote in message ... I would use a half dose with any scaleless fish.
Having said that, I use a full dose even with tetras and loaches when the fish is really unwell. "D&M" wrote in message ... Just another note. Since I got a treated hospital tank set-up. I got a
serpae tetra that's had it's dorsal fin bit off by a pim cat. The white film is starting to subdue around the injured area, and he eats normal, no sign of distress. Would it benefit him any moving him into the set-up hospital tank, or just leave him be to heal on his own? Wasn't no little bite, no sign of a dorsal fin is visible, right down to the backbone. It's healing over, however can't see if a new fin is growing or not as it's still quite white. The tetra's haven't learned yet to leave the cat's "den" alone, he doesn't like anyone hanging around the entrance to his cave. He actually built this cave himself, pretty neat looking. Smart fish. Tetra with injuries: www.execulink.com/~sharp01/fish/tetra.jpg Cat (he has his cave dug way back into this log): www.execulink.com/~sharp01/fish/cat.jpg Barbs, cause they wanted to have pics to... : www.execulink.com/~sharp01/fish/barb.jpg Cheers "D&M" wrote in message ... It's healing over, however can't see if a new fin is growing or not as it's still quite white. If it's right down to the base, it will probably not grow back, but the fish will adapt and be little the worst for wear. If it's healing, I would leave hime alone where his is. If it worsens, then you can re-evaluate the situation. The tetra's haven't learned yet to leave the cat's "den" alone, he doesn't like anyone hanging around the entrance to his cave. He actually built this cave himself, pretty neat looking. Smart fish. Too smart. The figure out quickly what their limits are too (as in what fish they can swallow). I just saw the sick pleco picture. That looks really bad. Good luck with the treatment. NetMax Cheers "D&M" wrote in message ... Sorry, lost the first post, so starting a new one.
