Default Fish Keeper begineer

Hello,

I've recently bought myself 4 goldfish. I bought the tank, waited a
week, bought two fish, waited a week, and bought two more. I noticed
the smallest of the four, bought in the second batch was very shy and
only came out to eat, then it died, three days after purchase. I've now
noticed the other fish I bought in the secnd batch becoming very shy.
the first two fish do tend to bully him a bit. I was watching the
yesterday and noticed white spots. I've googled and discovered all
about ich.

I went straight to the shop and bought some Interpet 6 anti white spot
plus treatent, but the leaflet that should be inside is missing! I'm
going to back to the pet shop tomorow, but in the mean time can any one
help with dose and advice for this product? I have a 21L tank with a
stingray filter.

Hopeing you can help me and little shamu the fish.

Katie

Hello,

I hope you're checking the water for ammonia and nitrites. Goldfish are
"dirty" fish that grow up to a foot long when healthy and well fed. Each
goldfish needs at least 10 gallons of water by the time it's a year old.

I hope you also Googled goldfish+care and the nitrogen cycle. :-)

Check all your water parameters including KH. You can safely add salt
to a goldfish aquarium at 1 tablespoon per 20 liters. Also note that
your goldfish will better resist the infestation with a KH of 80 ppm or
greater. The fish will have a better osmotic balance and the calcium is
needed for healing. Many medications for "ich" also have Malachite
Green which is more toxic at lower pH.

When you are doing your research on the internet, might I suggest MSN
over Google? Their algorithm favors older out of date and promotional
sites; I have found that for the research I do, I find much more
credible information on MSN (not just anecdotal info).

Thank you all for your advice.

I managed to find some information last night on dosage and gave the
fish its white spot treatment. I also ordered an aqaurian testing kit
and looked up info on cycling, thank you so much.

I checked on Shamu this morning, and he was looking much healthier and
it didn't take me ages to convince him to come out from hiding to eat.

unfortunatly when I came home today he was dead. I'm going to continue
with the treatment for white spot for the other fish as the pet shop
said if one fish is showing signs of the parasite they'll all have it.
is that what you'd recommend too?

I'm really upset about Shamu's death. hubbie thinks I'm mad. I really
wanted him to get better.

Yes. If one has it all others in the tank were exposed. Don't add more fish
until you know your ammonia and nitrite levels and you're sure this fish is
clean.
