If your going to move a tank with a few inches of water , remember that
the "slop" of the water will be the length of the tank. and this can be
quite rapid, and sudden. You would be better to add a few barriers in the
tank to break up the serface area.
As for the fry, get a few Plastic Soft drink bottles, and pour the Fry into
them, your going to loose a few, but it's easer then hitting the end of a
tank, when you go round a corner.
Years ago, I knew this man who sold Guppies on the markets, Everything
went into Plastic bottles, 4 to a bottle, 4 inches of water, and people just
bought the bottles. He never lost any fish.

Yay! I got my own apartment! Nice place, 2 bedroom, 2 bath. Fireplace.
Spacious kitchen. Just one problem. My fish! Any ideas on the best way
to move them? All bettas, 7 one gallon containers (mini tanks). But
then there is the added problem of my betta fry. Not all of them are
big enough to jar yet... and my best idea on moving them is to wait as
long as I can, drain the 5gal tank until only a few inches are left,
and put plastic wrap on the top. Move it like that, and hook it back up
in my new apartment immediately. Or I could do that first, because it is
kinda in my way to get other stuff that I need.
The adults will be easier, because I can bag them, and they won't
suffer too much from the experience. Hmm, maybe get my 10gal to the
apartment, set that up, and float the bags in it to maintain warmth?
Forget apples, let's go Bobbing For Bettas! LOL!

PLEASE HELP!!!!

She could try and seal the top of the 10 gallon tank with plastic, saran
wrap might work with a lot of tape, hardware store black or transparent
plastic would work great with some tap too. I agree with the consensus that
moving a 1 or 2 inch filled 10 gallon tank would be best as long as the
weight of the water isn't too heavy for the glass. The good news is that it
is either hit or miss, i.e. if the move of the 10 gallon tank is uneventful
you really don't have to worry about the move biting you in rear end
(remember the beavis and butthead episode of the party? One of the wusses
says, "this party kicks rear!" Ha, ha, ha, that was funny) later, so you can
rest easy when it is done, unless on the other hand if you have a problem
while moving such as the glass cracking you have non-ambiguous evidence that
it was a mistake to move it and you would deal with it then and there.

Okay, I have moved all my fishies. With the adults, I lowered the water to 2-3 inches and they moved well. Just hold the container in the air a little so it wouldn't have every bump. Keeping it up a bit helps the suspension and not slosh the water around. The stop and go was no problem, just the curb and a speed bump.

I wish I had been able to get the fry suggestion earlier. Pouring them into a smaller container would have been better. I have major casualties. Sigh.... My poor babies never even had a chance to flare at me.... It seems as if all the bigger ones are okay, but the smaller ones suffered bad. I tried to count last night, and kept coming up with between 18-24.

I will also be putting more info on the betta fry topic.
