Default Anorexic fish?

HI all,

We have 2 golden barbs in our tank that were bought at the same time. Both
were the same size when we got them but now, 3 months on one has grown huge
and the other doesnt seem to have grown at all, he looks like he's lost
weight and is anorexic. He appears to eat and swim normally and seems
healthy overall but he's a 3rd of the size of his mate.

Any ideas why there such a huge difference in sizes now?

Perhaps the small one is the male? I know at the very least other
fish have male/female disparities in size, such as my fancy guppies.
The female fancy guppies can get way larger than the fancy guppy
males. It's as if the roles of males and females are skewed in
comparison to mammals. Good luck and later!

It could just be a case of better genetics from one fish to the other.
