Help with Shrimp

I have a new Aquarium. 75G with Wet Dry. and I just finished my cycle. I
used Fiji Live rock to do the cycle. I have introduced 3 tangs, an royal
gramma and all are doing fine. I also introduced 2 Emerald Crabs and they
are also fine (though hidden).

The question is I have tried introducing 8 cleaner shrimp and all have died
with one hour of being in the tank. i would appreciate any knowledge of what
could be causing this. I have not used copper pipes or any shapre or form in
any way associated with this tank. What I have done is used PVC pipe (and
glue) for the water supply and return from the filter.

Salinity is 35% (I use a salinity meter not Hydrometer)
Ammonia is undetectable
Nitrites are undetectable
Nitrates are 2-3 mg/l

How are you acclimating them?

I have the same issue. All fish are healthy, 2 types of hermits, 2
emeralds, and a starfish, but shrimp will not last beyond 2 weeks for
me. I have checked every water parameter I can think of, all are
within tolerances. I'd love to figure this one out.

Very slowly Kelly.I add 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of water every 15 minutes. The
last group of 4 I acclimated over the course of an hour.

I have done some more research on this and I have a possible explanation. I
have an RO/DI unit that the DI cartridges quit on the last water change I
did. I think because of this I have some metals (possibly copper too) in the
tank. I have to wait to get a copper test kit to confirm.

Weird thing is I have 2 Emerald crabs that seem to be fine and of course the
LR is also fine. I talked to a LFS and they seem to think I have some trace
copper and recommended I put a poly-filter in place to clean anything that
the RO/DI may have produced.

I believe shrimp, like other invertebrates are sensitive to nitrates,
perhaps your wet-dry is producing high levels. I would test, also convert to
sump/skimmer combo.

Hello John,

What sort of fish do you have ?

I am sure that my Lemonpeel Angel tolerates cleaner-shrimps for
several months, then kills them one after another, within a few days.
I have not seen it attack any of them, but as they disappear, the
angel looks "fat" along with a few of the other fish. If you feed
shrimp to the aquarium, it may become familiar with the taste and
smell of shrimp, and decide that they taste better than they look !!

My 6 line wrasse looked pretty plump around the time my peppermint shrimp
(2) dissappeared.

I feed frozen brine shrimp twice a week.

My wife wants me to buy a $40 blood red shrimp. Anybody else think this is a
bad idea?
