Default Are goldfish content alone?

I've always wondered whether goldfish are content alone or whether they
prefer to have other goldfish around. I'm trying to figure out how to
best house my shubunkins. Anybody know whether carp are shoaling?

Thanks.

When I keep them together they seem to spend a lot of time in close
proximity, so I'd guess they like company.

I think they feel safer in a group. Mine tend to do this at night or when
they feel threatened.

In watching my GF I believe they would rather have company than be alone. In
the ponds and pools they hang around together in one or more small groups as
do the koi. They will wander off always from the group, but always go back.
I would never keep one GF by itself.

Correction: They will wander off *alone* from
the group, but always go back. I would never keep one GF by itself.

I know what you mean. I don't take everything I read online seriously as I
know how wrong the "experts" can be. Going by what I observed I would
always have at least two in a tank or pool if possible.

I notice my black moors hang out together so do the red caps, they are
either paired off in twos or all together

=================
I've noticed that GF who "know" each other will hang out together for awhile
before integrating with the others when added to another tank. My smallest
outdoor tank or pool is 150g. Smaller GF will hang out together and not mix
with larger GF. And I believe koi at least remember each other. When we
added the koi from the 800g pond to the holding tank with the friends they
haven't seen since last year they showed a great deal of excitement. They
must remain there until the pond's berm is finished. It never ends as then
we have to remove a leaky liner from a 680g tank and replace it. It's a
shipping cover we got for free so isn't worth repairing.

====================
Because if I do, he will change his to whatever new name I choose. I can't
stop others from using whatever NYM I use. People get annoyed when others
change their NYMs. I was asked *not* to change it.

He also uses my sigfile. All I can do is add the line above all my messages
to help avoid confusion, especially for newbies or those in the future who
look up messages on these groups. I was advised to do this by a trusted
friend, so will continue doing it.
