I was looking up some info on house plants and aquariums....After five years
of putting my plants out in front of my house in the summer I decided to
move them out back (kept them out front because my neighbors fuss over how
nice they are..lol) When I put them in back of the house they started to
get much bigger and a lot faster, I had plants, clippings and new plants
starting all over the place, over winter I lost a lot of them because of
the way my house is set up its hard to get light in all the windows, but
then I started putting fish tank water in them and they started to look
better and I think some were on their way to being dead at that point, so I
don't know if the fish tank water helped get them through.. I have always
use miracle grow, and it works well, but I decided on my three sweetish
ivy's I am going to use just miracle grow on one and just fish water on the
other and both on another and see what happens, which does better. I found
that article while trying to figure out if house plants could be poison to
fish and if so which ones but its kind of hard to find just that specific
info. I was tempted to put a clipping of devils ivy in one of my tanks, no
submerged just the root (as if starting a new clipping and putting it in
water in a cup), just to see if it would root quicker, then it would in reg

I used to be really bad about putting plants 'of any old nature' in my tanks
long time ago. I picked the habit up from an ol'timer who enjoyed
fish-keeping. He'd grab brim, crappie, bass, sun perches...etc...duck
weed,cat-tails..lillies...sticks and stones...you name it !! He had his own
crappie pond and a flare for 'scaping.(retired commercial artist) Using an
UG filter, alot of daylight, weekly water changes- He managed to do quite
well. As time went on and I gathered reading material...it became hilarious
at what He would get away with. He's gone now. But his tank practices still
bring a smile.......-ED
