Jonathan Kamens wrote: "Nekojin" writes: I would simply like to bring to everyon attention on this matter, that there are forums that are beinf created for ponders. True. Why have news server spend resources for a moderated group on usenet? This question has already been answered at length by the proponents. It was even addressed in the RFD: "At the same time, many former rec.ponders discovered that other outlets were not a useful alternative. Many of the boards, lists and forums that permit pond discussion appear to be more oriented to the high-end hobbyist." The proponents and supporters of this proposal want a Usenet newsgroup, because they like Usenet newsgroups. The fact that there are people eager to use such a newsgroup is reason enough to create it. Forums can be created to cater to anything anyone wants. The forum mentioned was created after the reply to this question by the RFD. This particular forum was created for ponders and their interests recently, while there is waiting for the new moderated group, and people are going there. And the announcement was made on rec.ponds itself, no crossposts. This should demostarte that inf there is a will there is a way. There is really nothing to prevent a google group to represent ponders. It can be modertated and be seen by all who use view newsgroup thru goolge. Why a moderated news group, when ther are other availbe options, and these option have not been explored nor attempted by the proponents of the RFD. It was just last week; Karl Davis allowed a Pond forum to be created. |
