I have never heard of carp pox and consider myself an advanced amateur
ichthyologist. I also want to know!

===========================
Google is your friend:

CARP POX: Carp Pox should be differentiated from other viral and non
viral eruptions with a microscope. In very cold water, there are strains
of Ich which will ...

Correction appreciated....I learned this as a different moniker.

I do not think this is Carp Pox based on the steps to remedy the
problem that have already been taken (and the picture as well!). Most
agree (including two of the sites listed) that heat is a treatment and
that this problem generally appears in colder months, often in poor
water conditions as well. Since this tank has been heated, and I am
assuming there are reasonable tank parameters and simply the picture
posted I do not believe this to be the case.

Here is a site that distinguishes different viral diseases:

BTW
Search engines are not the answers to finding the best sites, yes they
are helpful however they are in the business of generating revenue and
often word of mouth will find more recent , up to date articles as
many search engines have aging algorithms that often punish newer
sites (Google is the worst here).
I know this will draw some hate email from the Google lovers, but as
someone who has been involved in SEO (search engine optimization); I
will state that Google is NOT the best place for information searches
(MSN and Yahoo will bring up more current info). In fact I a have been
performing an experiment over the last two years with competing
information sites and Google has consistently rewarded the more spamy
less content driven site while dissing the better site and forcing
searches towards Adwords, unlike Yahoo and MSN (which still are not
the answer either)

Bottom line persons come to forums to learn rather than going to
search engines that may or may not know where a recent, updated
article that may properly answer their question is (the exception to
this is the Yahoo Answers forum which is a disinformation free for
all).
