Okay, it sounds as though its unanimous! Their barbs and most likely
Golden Barbs then. Are they a fairly rare type of fish? I bought these at the pet store and they were kind of expensive for your typical fish purchase, almost $5.00 a piece US. They are certainly barbs and not tetras, and they don't look like Rosy Barbs. Rosies don't have that kind of dark pattern on their sides, but Goldens sometimes do. Most Goldens (at least around here) are rather pale yellow with no or just very little dark spotting, but some strains are brighter yellow/orange with some red highlights, and they often have more dark spotting/shading on sides.
