Default Best Aquarium Forum?

The newsgroups are the most effective process. IMHO, stay
here. Forums, Yahoo Groups, whatever, are just bad public
policy.

Private forums are such a huge and ill considered negative.
They are diffuse (too many of them), they are subject to
having their archives purged, they are subject to just going
away, taking any "learning" done there away forever. They
are, to a one, businesses - they answer to a different God.

For me, forums are strictly browse-only. If I need to
discuss, here is where that would happen.

Newsgroups are quite these days, mostly because the
"high-production" period of aquaria science on the web is
over. The web enabled allot of communication in the early
90's, and allot of things got refined, if not settled out
completely. The various FAQs are really quite good now, and
you can research quite a bit using Google Groups and
standard web searches.

So, here you get people who can't, or won't, map their
problem into the existing archives, newbies, trolls, etc.

But, quite a few "high-powered" individuals are caught on
the list now and again. Most can't be bothered answering
the same questions over and over, but when they do choose to
engage on a subject, you probably want to be around.

forums...

Vbulletin stuff is good. Unfortunately, Usenet is beyond the capability of
most internet users. Personally, I made my first usenet post in 1992,
however I am quite certain my question will be answered up to 1000 percent
faster on a forum like reef central.

Yes, usenet is better, however a small fraction of the total marine hobbiest
uses it or even knows about it.
