New MH 250w 67k Seems like a lot of yellow ....

10,000K shouldnt have too much yellow

seems 10K is below the scale and would be some kind of black or grey

some bulbs will be different the rating is given to the overall bulb coloring so it could
have yellow and a blue and no white (streaching it there) ive used a few different bulbs I
am liking the 20,000K bulbs and ive liked the sunburst 12,000K bulbs in the past. neither
have any noticeable amount of yellow, there is a white and a blue depending on how far
from the bulb you are.

I was in a local fish store today, and started talking to the owner about
lighting. I was surprised by his almost violent reaction to MH lights. He
claimed that MH burns way too hot, and that he set one up in the store and
had to take it apart because he was feeling the heat about 5 feet away. He
also claimed that a person with a MH tank HAD to own a chiller, as no amount
of fans would cool the temperature of the water in a stable manner.

Since I've never seen a MH light, is there any substance to what this owner
was saying? In my mind, I was thinking this guy either likes to tell some
really streched out stories or he had a couple bad cooling fans ...

He's going overboard. You can view MH setups at a variety of sites, both ready
to plug and go, or retro fit (install it yourself)

Lots of people use MH and have beautiful tanks. 5' away you shouldn't feel the
heat at all.

I have two 400w MH over a 75 and the temp remains at 82 with only six 3"
fans for cooling (3 push air in, 3 pull air out). the lights are on 14 hrs
per day.

I use 2 Coralife 175 MH 's (I use these because there spectrum starts out
fair and stays fair on the color shift, this is true ((good MH's start out
good and go bad on their color shift)) and am justifying bying a bad product
to myself) and 4 36" 95 watt vho URI actinics, the actinics are on aprox 12
hrs a day and the MH is on aprox 8 hrs, with everything on the color is
beautiful, IMHO this is a good combo.
