Timmer,
Many plants do not do well with UGF's because people do not put enough gravel on top of the filter plates. And UGF should have 1 1/2 inch to 2 inches of gravel on top of the plates, and RUGF need about 3 inches. Most people do not want to put that much gravel in their tanks. HTH Tom L.L. They can also use the plants to hide behind when they are edgy. |

When I first started fish keeping about 1 1/2 years ago, I had a UGF. I had about 3" of gravel. Needless to say, it got very smelly. Then, under advice, I removed 2's of gravel, and it worked better. Then under ingrid's advice, I removed the UGF, Binned the tank, bought a 10g & filter. Things work very nicely. I'm a filter convert. UGF's just don't seem to cut it in my tanks, and I'm sure it was responsible for the death of my black moor. |
