Default Cleaning live plants?

I have a live plant that is covered in algae. I can rub off most of it with
a towel or a soft tooth brush, but some just won't come off. Is there
anything specific to clean living plants with? I am considering a diluted
bleach solution to wipe down the leaves, and then isolating it a few days to
make sure all of the residue is gone.
