Default maggots as food

Hello people,
I am lucky that I can have a large supply of maggots to feed my fish,
and I might not even have to spend any money on food. However, can this
kind of diet be unbalanced? People say that whiteworms for example
(which I assume have similar nutritional value) shouldn't be fed in big
quantities.
